A clearer view of housing.

Editorial standards

The principles guiding The Housing Current’s research, sourcing, and publication.

Our articles should help readers understand a housing question and the evidence behind the answer. These are our publication standards.

Start with sources

Use primary sources where available, including public agencies, original research, and official program documentation. Link to the material supporting factual claims. Identify the date and geography behind housing statistics, and distinguish reported data from estimates.

Make assumptions visible

Calculations should explain their inputs, assumptions, and limitations. Examples illustrate a decision; they do not guarantee a price, loan approval, return, or other outcome. Rules and programs that vary by location should say so.

Review before publishing

Articles should carry a byline and publication date. Review the cited evidence, calculations, and internal links before publication. AI tools may assist research or drafting; their output still needs checking against the sources.

Keep readers informed

Review dated claims when updating an article, and explain material corrections. Identify commercial relationships where they affect the content or links. Educational articles should make clear when a reader needs advice specific to their situation.
